The Genesis of Our Existence
The day was SO GREEN. Rainfall had been plentiful all spring and, now on the first day of summer, this longest day of sunshine REVEALED GOD’S GREEN & BEAUTIFUL EARTH. As we drove toward the Cumberland Gap, the lush vegetation was impossible to notice as it surrounded both sides of the vehicle. Everywhere my daughter and I looked, the lushness of God’s created earth was on display.
At the beginning of time, in two short days, God created so much:
- The heavens and the earth.
- The light, making day and night.
- The waters from the earth and from the sky.
THEN CAME DAY 3.
“Then God said,
(Genesis 1: 11 NASB)
“Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”
; and it was so.”
On Day 3, God really shows us His creative work as He fills the earth with every seed-bearing plant that would be necessary, that would provide food for sea creatures, birds of the sky, & mankind. GOD SPOKE THIS INTO BEING & This was the Genesis of Our Existence.
After the evening of the 5th Day, at the dawning of the 6th Day, God reached down, scooping up the dust of the earth and formed man.
“Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground,
(Genesis 2: 7-9 NASB)
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living being.
The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden;
and there He placed the man whom He had formed.
Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow
every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden,
and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
- Jesus offers a path to salvation and eternal life.
- Jesus is the source of all life: Physical and Spiritual.
Those who have faith in Jesus will have eternal life because in Him, the darkness does not overcome us. Scripture proclaims it so!
His life illuminates the path for all humanity, revealing truth, His Light, & dispelling the darkness of sin and ignorance.
Jesus is alive!
- He is the very origin and sustainer of life!
- He is the source of life, illuminating the path to our relationship with God the Father.
Therefore, the very life of Jesus—
- His Teachings
- His Actions
Exposes the darkness, showing us our sinfulness, while revealing the Truth of His Light.
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying,
(The Gospel According to John 8: 12 NASB)
[those He was teaching early that morning on the Mount of Olives]
“I am the Light of the world;
he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness,
but will have the Light of life.”
By following Jesus & by living like Jesus in the world (rather than living in the darkness), we have opportunities to share Him.
- The Genesis of Our Existence began when God created us. &
- The Genesis of Our Existence began when we gave our hearts to Jesus, the Son of God.
“but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light,
(The 1st Letter of John 1: 7 NASB)
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
This means that believers in Jesus, the redeemed ones saved by God’s Amazing Grace need daily:
- Prayer—time to listen to and talk with God (just as Jesus taught us)
- Study of the Scripture—reading and meditating on the Word of God (Jesus)
- Kind Actions—loving our neighbors who surround us
- Regular Fellowship with other believers because God’s Sanctification is ongoing until Jesus brings us home to heaven.
Today is the beginning, the Genesis, the new day. Let us follow the example of Jesus.
“but so that the world may know that I love the Father,

I do exactly as the Father commanded Me.
